How Do We Explain the New Programme and How It Supports Students?

Choosing the right educational programme for your child means understanding how it works, what it offers, and how it supports their growth - not just academically, but personally. At The British School Warsaw, our Pre-IB Programme has been thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of students who are preparing to enter the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

Whether your child is coming from a local Polish curriculum, a British school, or an international system, this new offering ensures they have the skills, language fluency, and mindset to succeed in one of the world’s most challenging academic pathways.

What Is the New Pre-IB Programme?

The Pre-IB Programme is a one-year transitional course specifically created for students aged 15 - 16 who are planning to join the IB Diploma Programme.

It acts as a bridge - academically, linguistically, and socially - between different school systems and the rigorous demands of the IB. For students new to international education or those who need to strengthen certain skill areas before starting Year 12, it’s an essential and supportive step forward.

Why Was This Programme Introduced?

We noticed a common challenge: talented students were eager to join the IB, but didn’t always feel prepared - especially in academic English, research writing, or critical thinking.

Our new programme directly responds to that challenge by focusing on:

  • Language proficiency, especially in academic English

  • Independent learning habits

  • Core subject readiness (Science, Maths, Humanities)

  • Research and presentation skills

  • Personal growth and confidence

It’s not just about getting students “ready” for the IB - it’s about setting them up to thrive within it. Learn more about our Curricula Guide to see how the Pre-IB fits within our academic pathway.

What Will Students Experience?

Students in the Pre-IB Programme will take a mix of core and elective subjects, including:

  • English Language and Literature

  • Mathematics

  • Integrated Sciences

  • Global Perspectives

  • Personal Development (including time management and emotional resilience)

They’ll also have access to our full extracurricular programme, including sports, performing arts, Model United Nations, and service initiatives.

Each student will have the opportunity to grow in a diverse, multicultural classroom, where they learn alongside peers from over 30 countries. Explore our modern Campus & Facilities that support this vibrant learning environment.

How Do We Support Students?

Support isn’t just an add-on at TBS Warsaw - it’s built into every part of the learning journey. Pre-IB students benefit from:

  • Access to learning support and EAL specialists

  • Mentorship from IB teachers and coordinators

  • Regular progress reviews and personalised goal-setting

We know that students perform best when they feel safe, supported, and inspired. That’s why our teachers go beyond instruction - they act as mentors, coaches, and partners in learning. Our Academic Excellence strategy ensures every student is supported, challenged, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Where Can the Programme Lead?

Graduates of our Pre-IB Programme go on to enter the IB Diploma Programme with confidence. From there, they become strong candidates for top universities around the world - including in Poland, the UK, the US, and beyond.

Through the IB, they’ll develop the global competencies, problem-solving mindset, and communication skills needed to thrive in the 21st century.
